The record breaking rainfall in the city has damaged the metropolis to an unbelievable extent. With waters overflowing in the bridges and lakes, several thousands of people suffered standing in the roads without food, water and electricity. It is estimated to know that even airports are temporarily closed due to heavy rain. Many trains were cancelled as the railway tracks are flooded with water. The main problem during this havoc is suspension of power supply and disruption of telephone networks.
On Tuesday, there is a record rainfall of
29.4 cm in Chennai and 49 cm in Tambaram. All the water reservoirs and
buildings were completely damaged in the city. You can see many buildings
collapsed on the Avadi- Poonamallee High Road near Tiruverkadu. All the
suburban trains were cancelled as there was some major damage on the bridge
across Adyar, Saidapet and Guindy.
In order to come out of the issue, the
Army, Navy, Air Force and National Disaster Response Force were involved in a
serious rescue operation in many major areas of the city. Further, the Navy has
confirmed that they will bring more forces to save the people suffering the
floods.
Chennaiities has started to help its people
with enough shelter, food and essentials via social network. It is important to
mention that social media is playing a great role in connecting with the
helpless people. Some of the primarily affected areas of the city include
Tambaram, Mudichur, Velachery, Anna Nagar. People from various states have also
started to contribute a number of emergency supplies for the people.
In many localities, the houses are
completely marooned and the residents have lost all their valuables. It is
really sad to see them crying and standing on the roads of the city. Government
is actively involved in various quick rescue operations but still people are
terribly suffering with the stagnant water and no power supply.
